i dont mean if the baby half black and white. But i just mean regular African American hair with black mothers and father.

Additionally physical traits can go back several generations. Two brown skinned parents can have a fair baby with straight hair and gray eyes, while two lighter complexioned parents can have an mohaganny or ebony skinned child. A baby can take after a great great great....grandparent. Also a lot of us have white and other races intertwind into us that we do not acknowledge or realize. Especially black americans since during slavery a lot of slave masters took advantage of some of the prettier black women and never claimed the child. So you could have white in you and not know it. And as a personal experience as a baby my sister and I both had straight hair as babies, mine still isnt as course as most and didnt get course until I was around 5. My son is half black and 1/4 white and a 1/4 spanish, and he looks EXACTLY like my husband. I hate to admit this (ill never tell my husband this) you can hardly tell he's mine. You can barely see any black in him. He's got green eyes, ivory skin, wavy hair, If i didnt see him come out of me I would be like honey did you cheat? LOL! just kidding. My husbands mother showed me his baby pictures and you literally cannot tell his pictures from my son's baby pictures apart, its scary. But really its all up to genetics and who has the dominant gene. Sometimes the dominant gene can be 5 or 6 generations back. Maybe if we ever have a little girl she'll look like mommy :)

Both of my parents and all four grandparents are fully black and I came out with long, curly/wavy hair (that none of them or my brother have). My dad has green eyes and my grandfather's are gray. My great-grandmother said never expect a black baby to look a certain way - any random genes from way back can appear in that child.

of course they can. it could be due to genetics of the baby but also at that age, hair is very soft, it get harder and changes some as we get older. but as a baby i have seen that plenty of times, especially with newborns
